RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta have recently announced the appointment of Rónán Mac Con Iomaire as Deputy Head of the service. raidió.
He succeeds Dónall O Braonáin, who has recently assumed the role of Chief Executive of Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge.
Rónán hails from An Cheathrú Rua and holds over 15 years experience in the media. He first began working with TG4 when the station began broadcasting in 1996, and later worked as a journalist with Independent Newspapers, while also holding the role of Editor of Eircom’s website, Cumasc. Rónán has spent time working as a Dublin correspondent for Foinse, and as a freelance journalist supplying material to the likes of the Irish Times, Magill and the BBC, and dealing with marketing and public relations with his own company, Meas Media, which he founded in 2000.
The year 2002 saw Rónán return to our screens on Nuacht TG4, and since 2007 he has held the role of Local Government Correspondent with Nuacht RTÉ/TG4. Rónán lives in An Cheathrú Rua with his wife and two children.
Speaking about his new role he said, “I recognise that the news services are the most valuable item in the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta schedule. I will set out to ensure the provision of these services going forward, and I aim to improve and enhance these services in the future. While this is a difficult time for the public broadcasting sector, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will be ahead of the game in providing services to Irish language speakers both within the Gaeltacht and across the country”.
